CUBA STUDY TOUR
In 2017 I travelled to Cuba with my friend Mel Taylor, to deepen my study of
Afro-Cuban percussion. We were based in Havana and we had general lessons about Afro-Cuban music as well as lessons on Batá and Cuban Tres. I took extra lessons on Congas including a lesson with the esteemed master
percussionist - Changuito.
We also managed to visit a few other parts of the country during our stay - Viñales, Trinidad and Cienfuegos.

The trip provided much learning, context and inspiration and I've continued to study Afro-Cuban music since then.
In our band Headphones Jones - Mel and I have written and contributed to several tunes incorporating Afro-Cuban and Salsa musical influences.
I also managed to bring back some beautiful percussion pieces and a Cuban Tres.
